This sample really goes with Sample 3. We tried two types of cathedral window and this one I really liked.
My source photo shows a stained glass window but I think that it's layout is very representational of cathedral window patchwork.
My artwork is a collage made of hand made paper and glitter card.
I used my hand dyed fabrics for the sample. The big advantage with mock cathedral window is that you end up with a seam allowance on each block so that they can be easily joined and incorporated into a quilt containing other blocks. I have alternated them with a plain block. I have couched down a thick black cotton knitting yarn onto the plain blocks to represent the stained glass.

This is really looking good. You must have had to be careful to keep the black folded edges very even, as it looks great!

Been having a look at your blog and decided to contact you because I'm thinking about applying to Craven College to do a City and Guilds course in P and Q.
I would like to know how much time you think is necessary to work on the modules between the weekends at college.
I also wondered if you've come in contact with anyone who lives in the Burnley area who is into P and Q. I can find people from all over the country when I search the web but can't find any groups or individuals in this area.
I'd appreciate your help.

Thanks for getting in touch - I have just arrived back home after weekend 9 out of 10!
What you really need to do is come to our open day at Craven College on Sat June 28th! There will be quite a lot of us there then and you can talk to the tutors.
I would be lying if I said there was not a lot of work because there is - however some people work faster than others. You need to complete 4 samples per month in the first year along with artwork for all 4 samples. City and Guilds is primarily an art and design course so you need to keep that in mind - I would also say that some knowledge of P and Q is needed but we do have some complete beginners. Also if you want to complete parts 1 and 2 it is a 4 year course. I would say that I spend the equivalent to 4 half days doing homework per month if that helps.
As for patchworkers and groups in the Burnley area - I am not sure - I can ask some of our course members next month. In the meantime - have you tried BQL, an internet Yahoo group - it is free to join and everyone is very helpful. You could ask the BQL members - I am sure there will be some members in Burnley.
Anymore info you need just get in touch - hope to meet you on the 28th June?
