Roadside Illinois Attractions

After a drive along the shores of Lake Michigan we decided to look at some of the roadside attractions in the outskirts of Chicago. The first photo shows a half size replica of the Leaning Tower of Pisa which is found in the YMCA Car Park in Niles, Only in America!!

We then travelled to Joliet and stopped at the refurbished Rialto Theater, another Route 66 landmark.

In Wilmington, this statue which used to be a 'Muffler Man' now advertises a restaurant called The Launching Pad' which explains why he is dressed as an astronaut. And yes, he is taller than a house!

We are staying in Bloomington, Illinois this evening, ready to continue our Route 66 journey tomorrow.

As this blog is still on British time I am always going to be a day behind - these photos are from Tuesday not Wednesday!
